The recent Israeli aggression into Lebanon which resulted in both the deaths of numerous innocent civilians and attacks against civilian infrastructure constitutes collective punishment. How can one justify the destruction of a country in response to the kidnapping of two Israeli soldiers? It is a blatantly disproportionate response.
According to International Law, as a nation-state, Israel must respect the principles of proportionality and distinction. But what incentive does Israel have to comply?  Israel has repeatedly violated international law and it will continue to do so as long as it is backed by the United States. Israel has violated many United Nation Security Council resolutions especially relating to its occupations, land annexations, military aggression, human rights violations, etc.
Prime Minister Ehud Olmert of Israel vowed that Israel would "continue doing whatever is necessary to achieve our goals," to drive Hezbollah from the border with Lebanon and to secure the release of captured Israeli soldiers. "Nothing will deter us," he said, "whatever far-reaching ramifications there may be regarding our relations on the northern border and in the region."
It is my belief that Israel can be stopped by the United States and the United States alone. The US must place pressure on Israel. Serious pressure- I’m not talking about a slap on the wrist. Perhaps US aid to Israel should be conditional on its compliance with international law? Now, you might be asking yourself what incentive does the US have to place pressure on Israel- besides the obvious incentive to uphold both international humanitarian and human rights standards? For one thing, the US cannot fight this “War on Terror” without the cooperation of Arab states.
It is a fact that the 1973 Arab Oil Embargo dealt the US economy a major blow. This exemplified Arab efforts to unite and push for policy changes. The time is ripe for the unification of Arabs.
The history of the Arab/Israeli Conflict has shown that war is a precondition to peace; however, peace has never been attained due to the lack of internal reform. Arab countries must reform, set aside individual self-interests and end corruption. How many wars must we fight to understand this?

The pro Israeli Lobby which includes Zionist Jews and Christians is so powerful that they control congress and most US politicians.
It is a waste of time and effort to believe that US will put any pressure on Isreal.
The US Middle East Policy is controlled by Zionist.
